Ever since I moved from a small town like Ranchi to a flashy Delhi- I understood the importance of holding on to my tradition of Riyaz and cultivating the space for intentional reflection on life giving practices that can actually resurrect my spirit- Music per se
It was not easy, adjusting to this new place and most days were simply going through the everyday motion of life, safely tucked in my personal space bubble.
Most people think for musicians - Music is a very stagnant practice. You simply sit at one place and well that’s it. How ever I perceive it differently though because Music always introduced me back to my body and I always maintained that the instrument I play is not something external- it is in-fact an extension of myself, of my body. I embody the instrument and that helps me to connect with my body on a different level . I become the instrument.
What started as a kid on learning how to hold my Sitar - is now a full bodied surrender to the rhythm. I smile at my stillness of my arms swinging up and down as I string across my Sitar. It just takes over.
This instrument, the practice has allowed me to explore, open, accept and become one with it - irrespective - wherever I am.
